Riverside decking that does not rot

The Broads are on our doorstep, from Horning and Ludham to Potter Heigham, Ranworth and Reedham. Decking by the water is where timber fails fastest, so we fit Trex composite: it does not rot, does not go green and slippery, and looks the same after a wet winter as it did when we left.

Composite decking for Broadland waterside homes

Why waterside timber fails

A softwood deck beside a Broads mooring is damp from October to April, which means rot in the joists, algae on the surface and boards that cup and split. Trex boards are capped composite, so the surface does not absorb water or support algae in the same way, and the textured finish stays grippy when wet. We build the sub-frame with treated or composite joists and stainless fixings so the structure underneath lasts as long as the boards.

Moorings, river frontages and quay headings

We build decks that run out to the river edge, platforms beside private moorings and terraces around boathouses and riverside lodges. Where the ground is soft we use deeper posts and a stiffer frame, and we can include steps down to a pontoon, built-in seating and lighting for the evenings on the water. Anything that touches the bank or the river itself needs separate consent, which we will flag at the survey.

Colours for reed, water and timber lodges

The Enhance greys, Foggy Wharf and Rocky Harbor, suit the black weatherboard and white render of traditional Broads houses, while the Transcend Lineage browns such as Jasper and Carmel sit well with timber lodges and chalets. Toasted Sand and Calm Water are softer options for a brighter garden. Full-size samples come to the site visit.

The Broads Authority is the planning authority

Inside the Broads area, planning is handled by the Broads Authority rather than the district council. Low decks in a garden are often permitted development, but raised decks, anything near the water and work at holiday lodges can need consent. We give you drawings and dimensions in writing so you can check before we start, and we fit to Trex’s specification as a Platinum Installer so the warranty holds.

// FAQ’s

Common Questions About Our Products

Which Broads villages do you cover?

Horning, Hoveton, Wroxham, Ludham, Potter Heigham, Ranworth, South Walsham, Acle, Reedham, Stalham, Loddon and Brundall are all regular trips from our Norwich yard. If you are elsewhere on the Broads, call and we will confirm.

Can you build a deck right up to the river?

Yes, to the bank. Anything that touches the bank or extends over the water needs separate consent from the Broads Authority, which we will flag at the survey and help you prepare for.

Will the deck go slippery in winter?

Far less than timber. Trex boards have a textured capped surface that does not support algae like softwood does, so they stay grippy through wet Broadland winters with an occasional wash.

Who handles planning on the Broads?

The Broads Authority is the planning authority inside the Broads area. Low garden decks are often permitted development, but raised or waterside decks can need consent, so we give you the dimensions to check first.
